Who the Outlander 2WD 500 is for

Property owners, hunters and first-time ATV buyers who want Can-Am’s Rotax power and build quality without paying for a V-twin. The 500/700 Outlanders handle food plots, fence lines and weekend trail rides equally well. The 2WD model makes the most sense on flat or gently rolling ground where 4×4 would rarely get used.

What stands out

• Rotax 650 single, 40 hp and 37 lb-ft (500). Smooth, fuel-injected power that’s plenty for chores and trail riding.
• Two-wheel drive. Simpler and less expensive, and well suited to flat farms, pasture and yard work.

The standard Outlander 500 adds selectable four-wheel drive with an auto-locking front differential. If you have hills, mud, creek crossings or winter weather, that’s worth the step up. On level ground it’s money you can put toward accessories.

Is an Outlander 500 a good first ATV?

Yes. Forty horsepower is enough for real work and trail riding without being a handful, and the Outlander platform grows with you through Can-Am’s accessories. If your property has steep hills or you plan to tow heavy loads, look at the 700.

Who can ride a Outlander 2WD 500 in Virginia?

Virginia limits riders under 16 to ATVs of 90cc or less, so this is an adult machine. Every rider must wear an approved helmet, and ATVs aren’t allowed on public roads except to cross one by the most direct route.

Can I carry a passenger?

Not legally. Virginia prohibits passengers on an ATV unless it’s designed and equipped for more than one rider, and this one is built for one. If you want to ride two-up, look at the MAX version.
